When will there be a “Scully effect” in logistics?

Documented in the 1990s by the Gena Davis Institute, the “Scully effect” demonstrates the positive impact of Dana Scully’s character in the series X-Files on women’s decision to pursue careers in science. Logistics is another of those fields that suffers from a lack of women. While waiting for a television series centered on a woman in logistics to be written, the sector is mobilizing to promote greater gender diversity.

Storing Lithium Batteries: The Great Confusion

Found in nearly all of our everyday objects, the issue of lithium batteries goes far beyond the added convenience they provide. An essential technological building block for decarbonizing industry, a matter of European sovereignty over the raw materials they contain, and the development of a reuse and recycling sector... They also draw attention when accidents occur. Regulations that take these new risks into account have therefore been under development by the DGPR for around two years. But delays in issuing the corresponding order containing requirements are putting the designers and operators of buildings that store them in a difficult position.

New tools for identifying logistics land

As part of the InTerLUD+ program, jointly led by Logistic Low Carbon and Cerema, the launch of a “logistics land considerations” project was announced in 2025. It will be rolled out to all EPCI (public intermunicipal cooperation establishments) before the end of the year. The aim is to help local authorities better anticipate land needs among logistics stakeholders, and to help logistics stakeholders find the right departments to address their questions on the matter. Interview with Hélène De Solere, Cerema’s logistics program director and co-director of the InTerLUD+ program.

Bike logistics needs real estate, too

For bike logistics players, France has a genuine lead over other European countries in the field of bicycle delivery. To realize this potential, however, it must professionalize its practices. Studies are currently under way to determine the criteria to be incorporated into land-use planning policies to support the development of this type of logistics… and the issue of real estate plays a crucial role.

Anne Delaigle, co-founder of IzzyTown Becycle: “Logistics must be taken into account in downtown planning policies”

With a deep understanding of the challenges facing independent retailers, having worked as a fashion designer for nearly 30 years, Anne Delaigle entered the logistics sector to support them. Between the pedestrianization of downtown areas, restricted delivery hours and a lack of available land, urban retailers are, in her view, under threat. To help them withstand e-commerce competition, she created IzzyTown in 2023.
